Spring Recreation in Campbell River

Badminton

Moving to a new country is a massive adventure, and sometimes the best way to feel at home is to get active and meet people who share your interests! Campbell River might be famous for its nature, but the city also has plenty of diverse recreational programs for youth and families.

Whether you want to crush a workout, learn a new hobby, or just find a cool place to hang out on a rainy afternoon, the City of Campbell River Recreation Guide has plenty of options. Here are five awesome offerings through the City Recreation and Culture programming this season:

The Weight Room at the Sportsplex

If you’re looking to stay fit or clear your head after a long day of studying, the weight room at the Sportsplex is the place to be. They offer affordable youth memberships and drop-in rates.

  • Pro-Tip: If you’re new to the gym, look for "Youth Weight Room Orientations." They’ll show you how to use the equipment safely and effectively so you can feel confident hitting the iron.

Spring Sports Nights

  • Youth Basketball (Ages 8–18): Multiple sessions available throughout the week to fit your schedule. It is a great way to improve your skills in a casual, fun environment.
  • Family Badminton: A fantastic Tuesday night option to get active with your host family!

Check the schedule in the image for exact times and dates running all the way through May.

BC Youth Week (First week of May!)

Mark your calendars! The first week of May is BC Youth Week, a provincial celebration of youth and their community impact. Campbell River goes all out with special events like skate park competitions, outdoor movies, or "try-it" sports sessions. It’s a week full of high-energy, free, or low-cost activities designed specifically for your age group.

Drop-In Activities

Don't want to commit to a full season on a team? No problem. The Recreation Guide lists "Drop-In" times for handball, volleyball, and even floor hockey at the Sportsplex. It’s super casual, just show up with your indoor shoes and a water bottle. It is one of the fastest ways to make local friends while getting some exercise.

Creative & Life Skills Classes

Want to learn something unique? The city offers everything from cooking classes (great for sharing a dish from your home country!) to pottery and martial arts. These smaller group settings are perfect for building your English skills in a "learning by doing" environment where the focus is on fun.

Encouraging your student to join a local program is one of the best ways to help them integrate into Campbell River life, with many programs and facilities catering to all ages. You can find the full Winter/Spring 2026 Recreation Guide online at campbellriver.ca/recreation.
