Highlights: Board Meeting - June 18, 2024

Board Considers Change to Policy on Trustee Code of Conduct
The Board of Education has issued a notice of motion for changes to the board's Trustee Code of Conduct board governance policy. Feedback is being solicited until June 28, 2024.
District Increases Meal Allowance and Mileage Rates for Travel Per Diem
The board increased the district's meal allowance rates for out-of-district travel by staff and trustees and the mileage reimbursement rate for excluded staff and trustees. The mileage rates for other staff groups are set by collective agreements.
Trustee Remuneration Increased
Trustees voted to increase their compensation following the annual trustee remuneration formula that was set by a community representative committee in 2005.
Board Approves New Wellness 10, 11, 12 Course
Secondary students will now have an opportunity to learn how to identify, understand, and explore strategies to support their wellbeing and increase their resiliency through a new Wellness Course to be offered at Carihi Secondary.
School District Announces Student Cell Phone Restrictions
Starting in September, students in School District 72 schools will be restricted on when they can use cell phones and other personal digital devices during the school day. The new restrictions are to follow the provincial government’s directive that all school districts must have cell phone restrictions in place by July 1.
District Capital Priorities Submitted to the Ministry Unchanged for Third Year
The school district is once again submitting the following projects as its top priorities for 2025-2026 capital plan requests to the Ministry of Education: a full replacement of Cedar Elementary ($39.7 million); two-classroom expansions at Ocean Grove and Ripple Rock Elementary Schools ($8.4 million); and seismic upgrades at Cedar, École des Deux Mondes, Penfield, Robron and Oyster River ($25.5 million).
